The pursuit of respect and admiration

Humans are pack animals. We’re wired to feel a deep sense of belonging.  

There’s a fork in the road when seeking respect & admiration. 

Mother culture route: the material pursuit - square footage (house) and horsepower (car). 

Alternative route is through intelligence, wisdom, humor, love, empathy, & friendship 

I think it’s important to reflect on the temptations of mother culture because the inputs are all around us. The alternative route requires intentionality. 

As leaders, we have an opportunity to build organizations where people feel a deep sense of belonging through the alternate route.
